Kitchen Knife

Can anyone recommend a good reasonably priced ($100 or less) kitchen/chef knife? One of my daughters wants to get my wife one for Christmas.

Forged carbon, not stainless

German, not Chinese....although I'm sure they're all using Chinese steel now anyway.

You can fulfill that for less than $100 in a number of ways.

Sorry, that Henckels is stainless.

This one is Carbon. Mrs. TAFKAP needed a knife for one of her classes a couple years ago, and she got one from this brand on Amazon. It's held up well and has a great feel.

TafKaps post ^^^ brings up a point worth mentioning and that's length of the blade. My workhorse is a 7" chefs blade but I have shorter and longer blades for specific task. Might want to find out what length she uses most often and what she's most comfortable with.

I have 10 inch Imarku that I like. I think I paid $99 for it several years. I'm no expert on metals but it is "high carbon stainless covered with powdered steel"

This! I prefer a santoku for MOST kitchen tasks as well.
