Food plkots are great, and my clover did well this summer for the most part, but, what is the best thing you can do to help bucks in spring/summer while their horns are actually growing.

No,I dont mean turning 100s into B&C bucks, just doing what I can.I love working on my place.

Had a select cut done, will make some good cover.Thinking of cutting all the sweet gums I can find, they are good for nothing.IMO That'll create more cover.

I know the season is just getting started, but Im always thinking of making my place better. One thing Im thinking of is putting in a few water holes.

Anything else ya;ll thinking of?

For spring, all the natural regrowth you can produce. For summer, if you have the acreage, all the soybeans you can grow!

I was thinking about this right before I went to sleep last night. I've been saying I will grow beans in my "big" plot next year...

However, I know there will be about 100 plus acres just down the ridge. It seems ill advised to put in the time and money to grow an extra 1.5 acres on my ridge.

What do y'all think in this instance?

FH,

right now my goal will be to get more trees in the ground, expand my back plot/best hunting area, get the level areas of roads frost sowed in white clover (I need more perrinials) and kill some big beach trees to clear canopy space.

I also have about 30-40 acres of my land I've hardley been on. THis is the "sanctuary, but I want to get a path in or two and cut it into two 10 acre chunks to increase huntability.

With in a mile in any year I'd say I have about 400 plus acres of beans. Every other year I know the neighboring unhunted property goes into at least 100 acres of beans. Makes early season tough, but it feeds the deer great.

Still trying to decide what to do with my big plot...clover is the obvious choice, but I love the high draw of ww and the idea of having a late season (Dec 15th late MZL time to be exact) food source in it.

Will clover out draw brasicas and such. My main idea is to grow corn and then run down strips and plant ww/rye grain/oats in them. Not a huge plot but the one I have the most to work with. What do y'all think?

Many winter foods will outdraw brassicas during early season, but once we've had the first hard freeze, brassicas come on strong in preference.
