Shot a nice wide 7 right before dark, broadside 25 yards with my .243... The deer kicked, and took off but slowed down weaving left and right but never crashed that I heard... After eating some supper and getting a buddy I went back to look, and the only "sign" I have is a spot where a bunch of leaves have been rustled around a good bit, and it literally stinks when you're standing near it... Surely I didn't miss him clean, but I wouldn't have thought I gut shot him at the time either... It's gonna be cold tonight, hope I find him in the morning before the coyotes do.... What are your all's thoughts on how the deer acted after the shot?

I hope I'm wrong but you didn't happen to find any grass or grain particles like a gut hit did you? I hope I'm wrong but had a juvy hit one this way last week and that's exactly how it was. Found her dead 75 yards from that after a couple hours waiting, she bed down and died.

If he kicked then you hit him.
Im betting he wont be too far away.
I hope the yotes dont find him tonight.
Good luck with him tomorrow. Its a blessing that its cold tonight.

Yeah I think he won't be to far. I believe you will find him in the morning. Think positive

It truly is a blessing it'll be cold, and for once it's a blessing to be on 2nd shift, I'll have all morning to look. I'm with ya on hoping the yotes don't find him either

Good Luck and hope you find him. I know all about those sleepless nights. Lost a 150 inch 12 one yr and didnt sleep for days. I really hope you find him...
