Found some birds yesterday and we spent about an hour and a half busting ice and opening up a hole for this morning.
Woke up to heavy snow.
Black cat crossed the road in front of us on the way.
Could not BELIEVE how much the water froze last night!!!
Forgot the spinners.
Busted a tail light out while trying to launch.
Made two trips back to the truck for other crap we forgot to put in the boat.
Made it about 20 yards before we broke a prop.
Thankfully we didn't get any farther.
Made it home safe and cooking breakfast now.
Ahhh the life of a duck hunter.

I haven't had an "opportunity" to hunt in ice this season yet. 2 weeks ago I loaded up the jon boat with no gas motor attached due to low water levels.

I've gotta say, I liked the simplicity of just using an electric trolling motor to get around. Not the speed or horsepower of the gas motor, but I had way less worries about plugging the water pump, busting the prop, failure to start in the cold, etc.

I hope your season gets better, or at least simpler

We all know that a black cat crossing the road in front of you is bad luck. The problem is that none of us remember this until it's too late. The key is to always be armed and shoot the cat before it finishes crossing if you are unable to run over it.

Wow what a morning. Duck hunting will slap you in the face sometimes.

Well I feel like I know better then to fight this weather. But some people have to learn.

Just kidding, but I have been there and done that in the past. These day will just go to work or stay in bed instead of fighting 4-6" ice and cold temperatures.

Well I feel like I know better then to fight this weather. But some people have to learn.

Just kidding, but I have been there and done that in the past. These day will just go to work or stay in bed instead of fighting 4-6" ice and cold temperatures.

When my son is here and wants to go hunting I go.
Time with him is precious and means more to me with each passing day.
Can't keep up with him anymore but I will never stop trying.
I told him if he wanted to go back I would drag the 170 out and we would bust some ice.
He wouldn't have it though.

That is me with my son--we've had 2 fun hunts the last couple days. I can still hang with my son, lol. We get home from duck hunting and he crashes for a few hours. I do cherish these times.
