I had 5 mature does feeding 30 yards from my stand this morning . I had a south wind in my face . They didn't have a care in the world until a deer started blowing behind them I am guessing 50 yards or so 80 from me . I have no ideal what it was blowing at. But the 5 in front of me got very interested and slowly jogged towards the blowing deer and out of sight . Almost like it was calling them to come on . It's interesting to me to see how deer interact with each other . I would have thought they would go in the other direction if it was alarming them and not towards the danger . Just to see how they would react as the was going away I blow a grunt .doe bleat and a fawn bleat . Which they stopped turned , looked in my direction and kelp jogging in the direction of the blowing deer . As I type another doe has came back lol .

If the wind was in your face it would make sense that the deer behind you winded you.... Just my thoughts...

I am assuming these were all does? Man can never understand a group of women, how they react to one or what they are saying! :D

Repeated blowing is more a curiosity thing than alarm. When alarmed, they usually blow once or twice and exit stage right. I have called does closer a couple times by blowing at them. It works well whent hey are in a field and you are in the woods.

very true lol.

I read in a book, when I was in my teens, that blowing/snorting at a deer would more likely than not produce a curious response. I ignored it for years. My first bow kill was the first time I tried it out - buck crossing ~75 yards out at dusk...two swift snorts later, I took a broadside shot at 15 yards.

Since then, I've produced more positive than negative behavior when trying it out. In fact, I can't recall a single time that I snorted and deer ran away.
