Anyone read the story by Wade Bourne? Some remote stream in TN where two turkey hunters found a smallmouth gold mine. I kind of have my own version of that but I haven't yet done much exploring of the stream. I wonder where that place is, it looks awesome.

I found brook trout in a small spring fed branch on my lease which is hours away from the "smokies" or cnf. Pretty cool. Dont know if TWRA stocked them or what. But there are many of them and they are brook trout.

that is really neat!

Brook trout are native, so it's possible that they arrived naturally I guess. It would be super interesting to find out if TWRA does DNA testing to find out where particular strains come from. It might be possible (I have no idea) for them to say whether they were from stocked strains or not.

The other side of the coin is that, since you lease that land, you don't have any long-term hold on it. It might "evaporate" from beneath you if word gets out. If I were you, I'd probably keep a lid on it

I'm with you catman! I wish I knew where that stream was. It looked like one heck of a stream! Never been lucky enough to find anything like that in my neck of the woods

I dont know about that stream, but I know of 3 in my area that can produce 3-5 pounders pretty regular

I know a couple good streams around here but I don't fish them enough to break 3 pounds

that sounds good hit me up this summer. I have a spot I like to wade that's about 3.5 miles going upstream

I fished it with Wade. It wasn't exactly a gold mine but it was pretty good. BTW Wade is one tough dude. He just had both knees replaced at the same time.
