Checked a trail cam and replenished a mineral block, and when I walked up, there was an 8 pt about 60 yards away  .. I carry on with my normal business and tried not to pay attention to him.

He walked off after a minute or two at a brisk pace, but didn't run like the wind.

Would you keep walking towards a direction away from him and worry about the camera another day? or go about your business like I did?

Keep right on walking steady, don't make direct eye contact, and if he bolts watch which way he goes.

Don't worry about it too bad now...he'll be fine.

I've always heard that you should go about your business. If you act like your stalking him - he's gonna run and move out if it happens enough.

My Dad used to take me hunting at a place where I had to walk across this huge field that was waste to head high of weeds - great cover for bedding field - it ran the entire width or our property. He told me to stop every 50 yards or so. If a deer was just laying there waiting for you to walk by it would get nervous and jump up when you stopped. Sure enough, I jumped a TON like that.

We only got to hunt that once or twice a year... So we werent afraid of scaring off bucks really.

Normally I turn into the Deer whisperer and start a conversation with a low tone in my voice.
Usually I begin with Hey Buddy !
Then I wait a split second for his reaction.
If he continues to look my way and he has a good rack I will then tell him to eat good and make him aware him that I shall return on a certain date with my weapon of choice.
If he happens to be smaller I ask for him to do me a favor and swing by during the season with his older buddies in tow and I promise to let him go another season or two.
Every once in awhile when I have the extra energy I will just take off running towards them, it makes for a lot of added fun when scouting.

Now that I think about it you might be onto something.
It hardly ever goes as planned. Guess I should start giving them misleading information next time.

If he was a shooter, then I would have made quick notes of time, location, moon phase, temps, wind direction, and watched where he went after he left me :)

Last gun season: What would I do....hmmmmmm....probally jump behind a large cedar tree and almost start to cry while snapping pictures with my cellphone of the biggest deer I have seen in the woods. Yea; I am about 100 percent that's what I would do. And sit and watch him mingle with 3 does at forty yards because it was 30 minutes before dark and I decided after my school faculty meeting I would see what the owner got bushhogged with no gun.

kinda of a different scenario but...

I had a friend pull a quick scouting trip mid november to hang a new stand and caught a 3.5 yr old 8 point standing in the middle of a scrape and spooked him. Went back a week later climbed a tree and killed him at 2:30 in the afternoon over the same scrape.
