Was doing some research over the internet..... I want to know, would a pistol or rifle primer burn as hot as a shotgun 209 primer.

Specifically, looking at a conversion kit that would use a .25acp brass with primer instead of the 209 primer. The article read that in some cases the 209 primer going off was lifting the bullet off the powder before the powder actually ignited and propelled the bullet out of the barrel. By lifting the bullet off the powder, you would get fliers.

I am asking because I am using Blackhorn 209 powder and your supposed to use a hot primer to avoid misfires since the Blackhorn 209 takes a hotter source to ignite it.

What are you guys thoughts?

I cant answer your question but it seems I read somthin like taht last year, I'll keep watch'n this post and see if anyone has a fix for it, mite learn somthin here.

I think the problem with the standard 209 primer was that it did not ignite the BH209 fast enough and bumped the projectile forward. The magnum primer should ignite the BH209 before the bullet has a chance to "bump" forward.

Use a CCI MAGNUM 209 primer, and that issue should resolve itself.

At the time, I couldn't find any of those in stock.....

I settled for the Remington STS 209 primers without trouble igniting the powder as best I can tell.

Thinking about an Omega and saw that the .25acp conversion was available for that gun. Going to the .25acp also reduces fouling in the breech area..... here is some info:

I'm sure it will reduce fouling, I just can't convert my Knight rifles. I had 2 hangfires, and 1 missfire with regular 209s, none with the Mags. Groups got tighter with the Mags as well.

that conversion was to fix the problems associated with 777 powder and standard 209 primers, prior to 777 primers. the idea was that the 25acp primer was not as hot as the standard 209 primers and would not push the load/bullet forward prior to ignition.

I used the 25 acp conversion when I used 777 and loved it,but I am useing blackhorn 209 know and I did try the 25 acp with blackhorn but got a few hangfires so I switched back to fed. 209 primers.
I am looking at converting my encore to the 22 hornet conversion just cause I really like the brass instead of the little ole 209 primer and its just different.
