Almost out of hevishot so I ordered 3 boxes of 3" 9 shot Federal TSS for my 12 gauge. Rogers has killer prices on Federal TSS right now.

Honestly, not much reason to use TSS in the 12g, unless you want to step down to 2 3/4" shells. It's completely overkill... which you will see once you shoot your first patterning shot. OFC, in hunting, is there really such a thing as 'overkill' ? :)

Yep. How much deader than dead do you want him?

Now, one may be wanting to eliminate the flopping, so I guess there are degrees of deadness :D !

One beauty of TSS in 12G is not having to use an aftermarket choke. Load 1 5/8 - 2 ounces of #9 TSS up, install factory full choke and go hunting. You will be good to 45 yards all day long, and likely 50, without sacrificing anything up close.

I think I asked this last year, but how do you not have a breast full of itty, bitty pellets? Do most of them blow all the way through?

I'd worry about breaking a tooth.

Is TSS safe to use in regular full chokes? Would have thought it would have to be rated for steel/HTL.

I had very few pellets in the birds that we killed last year. I am assuming you don't get many strays on a good shot because the TSS pattern stays together very well. For the few pellets that were in the breast, all passed through.

If I ever build another gun it will be a 20. But for now I love my 870 with the Shurshot stock. I am stepping down from 3.5 inch Hevishot to 3" TSS. I figure the 3" TSS #9 will be a stone cold killer at 50 like the 3.5 inch Hevishot.

I've gained a bunch of weight and can't do the flopping turkey sprint anymore. No flopping suits me fine. [emoji16]

Definitely a concern for me as well.

Yes. I've shot TSS through flush full chokes in both Rem 870 12G and 20G, without any problems. I know of some who shoot it through full chokes religiously.

I've shot a truck load with TSS in the 5 years I've been loading them at a variety of ranges. Never had an issue with one in the breast

I'm sure you are getting some shot in the breast. Does it pass completely through?

That's what I meant. Any I've seen hit the breast I never had to dig out. They just went right through.

Then that's another added benefit of TSS. No digging shot out of the breast hoping it doesn't get in the disposal!

Yes it is.

My son shot one last year at 30 yds with the 1000fps reduced recoil tss 9s... I cutted right before the shot to get him to raise his head, he gobbled instead, and the bird took the full load right where the neck meets the body. Most passed through the breast, but there were enough remaining which made the tops of the breasts tricky to eat with the pellets that remained.

You can def break a tooth with the tss shot, not all pass through...

No problems with our other 6 birds, but they were shot between the waddles and head
