Hunting on the ground

I hardly get in a stand with a gun unless I need a vantage point or there is no cover. I just wear a face mask full time which helps a lot when deer are close.

If I have a good spot to hunt on the ground I don't mind. A spot I used to hunt I'd take my turkey chair and sit on the ground and was able to watch 2 ridges that was perfect

I've killed one deer with a gun out of a tree stand. That was over 30 years ago. I still bow hunt out of a climber or ladder, but I always gun hunt from the ground.

What turkey chair or tree seat do you guys use?
I have a foam pad that I either attach to my belt or put in my backpack if I have one. It's waterproof simple, doesn't make any noise, no metal, ect...

I like to get in their bedroom with a rifle when it's wet or raining so I pack light and don't carry anything that would make unnecessary noise. I also have to fit in tiny spaces and sometimes crawl to get into some areas.

I have three mounted bucks big 8 point was from a tree with muzzleloader, decent 10 point from the ground with rifle, and decent 9 point from ground with bow.

I'm a master of hunting from a folding chair on the ground.

I've always been afraid of heights, but as I've gotten older, I realize if I fall I don't bounce, I break.

The only reason to be 20ft up a tree is during bow season. And thats boring to me. I bowhunt spot and stalk from the ground. Unsuccessfully I must say, but it's more fun. And that's what counts.

I have a few spots I hunt from the ground. Other than those few spots, I absolutely hate it. Wherever I seem to pick, I'm always in the deer's path. Also, hunting in ridge/hollow terrain, it seems much harder figuring out the direction of the "crunching in the leaves" while sitting on the ground versus up in a tree

Anybody else hunt ground level? I'm almost 59 and like climbing less every season. I just bought a Millenium tree seat and a Primos shooting stick. I think it will work ok on the steep places I hunt.
Yep. I'm fairly young (36) but I enjoy hunting from the ground quite a bit. I have a Fanatic Outdoors Hammock Seat that is every bit as comfortable as my Summit climber. Biggest key of ground hunting other than wind direction is sitting still, if you don't have a good seat it's tough.

This is the conversation in my head when I hunt from the ground. #1" hey that looks like a good spot" #2 " I bet I could see better over there by that tree" #1 " man I really need to be able to see over that knoll"#2 the wind is wrong" #1 I shouldve just brought my climber".
I have a very hard time being satisfied with my "spot". Lack of experience from the ground I'm sure. Anyone else suffer from "the grass is greener syndrome"?

I rarely hunt from the ground and this would probably describe me if I do! Being in a tree keeps me in one spot at least.

Used to. Now that I'm 76 I find a spot and sit down. If one comes by ok and if not that's okay. Lot less work when I get home.
