I am hunting in chickasaw state forest next weekend and it is scheduled to be 60-70s and thunderstorm the whole time. Will this weather negatively affect the deer? Any tips or special consideration?

I hate hate hate the rain especially since I carry a $500 camcorder and $150 microphone but I will hunt when I can in the next couple weeks since season is winding down. Better get a shower and head out here soon, it should be OK until right before dark when the rain comes in...

Warm temperatures hurt 2 ways - they encourage the deer to move during nocturnal hours to avoid the heat, and they increase the risk of meat spoilage after one is down. Might also be warm enough for bugs to come back out :(

Rain is good to hunt in, unless it's so hard that blood will be readily washed away.

Put a small piece of electrical tape across the muzzle of your weapon to keep water from pooling up inside. The moisture accelerates bore corrosion, but the main reason is that it affects accuracy. There have been some interesting articles written about the effect of water inside the bore vs. tape on the end of the barrel. The tape has no measurable impact at moderate ranges (~200 yards or less, if I recall correctly).

Rain adds some complexity to hunts, but if you pack a lightweight poncho and find a cedar to hunker under, you can usually ride out a few hard showers. If it's going to rain hard for very long, I'll usually go nap in the truck until it turns back towards a light shower.

Best of luck - hope you get a big one!

I saw 6 deer in the rain yesterday. I truly despise hunting in a heavy rain, but I can deal with a light shower.

Rain is awesome for hunting (and fishing). When it comes to electrical tape over the end of the barrel, you should keep the end of the barrel TAPED closed at ALL times. Nothing than worse than sticking your barrel in something and plugging it and the tape absolutely will not affect your shot.

My Marlin stayed dry in my Gun Slicker this morning. I didn't remove it until I had my tree umbrella up.

Above average temps affect deer movement more than light rain but they both slow it down. We have several of those phone cameras out and they slow way down on activity during these periods especially in daylight. But, you can't kill one on the couch and rain will keep your scent more contained and your movement quieter.

I don't disagree with the temperature affecting movement, but I actually see great movement with a light rain.

If I weren't tagged out, I would be taking advantage of the wind and rain to do some stalking.
