I want one really bad, but they are awfully proud of them.

Does anyone think they are worth it?

I have a 998. If you are on the water much and willing to learn how to use it then you will be darn happy with the purchase. They are unreal!!!

I bought a 1198 back in June. To me it was worth every penny. You definately will love it. You will be amazed at what you will find under the water. It is very user friendly also. My only advise it to go on line and buy it. Much cheaper than Bass Pro, or other places like that. I got it, a ram mount, and a Navionics chip, and saved $600 bucks, that's including not haviing to pay sales tax. Buy the big ram mount cause the unit is so big. J and H products is where I bought mine. You can find them online, and call them direct with questions, and ordering. Hope this helped you some.
