How to kill bradford pear

I bought some property a couple of years ago and the previous owner loved bradford pears. The biggest one split in half during a storm and I cut what was left of the tree down. Now where the stump is, more trees keep trying to grow back. Is there anyway to kill this thing so It will stop trying to grow back?
