With the limit change and the shot distance question at hand,I was only wondering how many supported the 2 buck limit actually hunts during archery,ml and gun season.I read where most enjoy getting a deer as close as they can,For me Iv'e been fortunate to take my share over the years during archery and I have matured to let certain deer walk. But lets take my son for example who is relatively new as a archery hunter and big or small is always a trophy in his eyes as well as the story behind the hunt.He killed a small 7 point last year opening day of archery, small by many people standards but to him and his dad it was as good as anyones buck out there. In the Ml season he killed a 9 point that very few on this sight would of let walk,my point is he has not enjoyed or had the time to mature yet and thats sad to me.Did yal always let deer walk I didn't it took some time to mature.Don't forget our youth during what ever decisions are made

No need to call it small twice...

"Great he killed a 7 Pointer"

Congrats to your SON

I grew up in a family that that was taught that we eat what we kill. With my dad and I being the only two that ate deer meat and my mom doing 90% of the cooking, that meant we were done hunting after I killed one deer. It taught me that I was responsible for when our season was over and I feel that it helped me to mature into the person I am. Once I pulled the trigger, our season was finished. However, it didn't mean that our hunting was done for the year. Believe me, we did a lot of small game hunting during the early years. I had very little trigger constraint at first. Maybe with the new limits it will kindle a fire for more folks to do more small game hunting.

BTW, congrats to your boy on his season.

If your son is pleased with his kill, then that's all that matters in my book. Congrats to him (and you as well)! Fortunately, I know how satisfying it is to see your child be successful at something they want so bad. That's as good as it gets!

As far as hunting all 3 seasons, I haven't hunted much with a bow in the last 6 to 7 years. It seems that I always have to plan my hunting time more, the older I get. Since my time is so limited, I choose to spend the majority of it during the peak pre-rut and rut timeframe.

As a sidenote: I keep telling myself that I'm not getting any younger, and I had better be getting all of the hunting time in that I can. There will most likely come a time when I won't be able to go. I don't want to have any regrets about time spent, when I'm so old that I can't do anything about it.

I hunt all three seasons religiously, and have done so for the last 20 years. With that said, I did not send in a comment to TWRA supporting either limit. Furthermore, I have averaged 5-6 does and 1 buck or less over the last decade in TN. I hunt in a highly regulated hunt club that influences how I hunt and what I choose to shoot. My .02

Congrats to your son. Sounds like he had a great deer season by most hunters' standards. Add in a doe or two during archery, some field dressing, home processing, jerky making, sausage making, etc. and it would be hard to beat.

i did. with the new limit, if i get 2 bucks before gun season, then gun season is pretty much closed. i'll probably eventually quit bow hunting

I hunt all 3 religiously. Even if I kill my two bucks I'll be in another state buck hunting or eliminating does or filming somebody kill their dream buck, etc. My point is I'll always be in the woods if the season is open.

There are no small bucks in my opinion. They're all trophies to somebody!!!

To the guys an ppl that I allow to hunt my properties my only stipulation is they do not shoot a buck if he doesn't excite them. I hate the idea of killing a buck just for the sake of killing a buck. When they quit exciting me I guess I'll take up fishing lol.

I do and have hunted all 3 weapon seasons for years. I love that "thump" sound but I've been slacking off on my archery hunting the last couple of years opting instead for a more opportune timing when the big boys are ready to play.

Hey I killed a doe during archery and couldn't talk ,lol,Of coarse I was on the phone with my son and looked down and it was looking straight up at me talking,It dropped it's head and trying to get my phone in my pocket and get my bow off the hanger,I thought no way its gonna blow .When my son called back I couldn't talk ,He thought I'd shot a monster

I bow hunt thru bow and MZ and then rifle during rifle season. I don't own a MZ and TBH never really wanted to. My 12 yr old has really gotten into archery the last two years and we shoot bows at least 3X per week, sometimes 5. I'm a huge gun guy and cast and reload every caliber I shoot. I'm always running over to Gallatin Gun Club and testing loads and tuning, it's very close to home anyway. My hunting buddy refuses to shoot a bow and I refuse to get into MZ. So he sits in another stand with no weapon to just observe and enjoy the woods during my bow hunts and I bow hunt while he's MZ'ing.

I've kept my mouth shut on the buck limit because I'm not sure I have a right to argue one way or the other. My wife will not let me hang a head on the wall and it makes no sense to me to pay a lot for a mount that sits on the basement floor. I let all buck pass for my buddies that would mount it. All my hunting spots seem to be about 20-1 doe to buck anyway and I just eat. My wife doesn't eat meat but cooks all meat for us. My daughter is 5 and eats like a little bird. My son will be 13 6/14 and eats meat like God's gonna quit making it. Of course I didn't get to be well over 200#s just looking at meat. LOL!

I try to harvest 3 does/year and that will get us a year easily. A turkey or two and as many crappie and cleaning size bluegill I can catch. My daughter will eat a lot of chicken and fish and my son will literally eat as many fish as I clean.

About the same for me. The rut action really starts to pick up during the last couple of weeks of bow season at my place, and continues to gain momentum thru ML season. By rifle season lockdown is kicking in and the first phase of the rut is winding down. If anything I'll probably concentrate more on bow and ML season, though I will continue to hunt if I haven't taken my 2nd buck thru rifle and do my best to kill my two allowed bucks.

Hey I grew up eating squirrel luppy or dumplins fried rabbit, even a coon or two but ...Theres nothing like sitting in a tree at the break of daylight and watching the woods come to life.I'm Blessed ever time to watch Gods creation unfold on a clean crisp mourning.I'm from Polk County and my wife is from Grundy, the one thing we do is eat Deer meat. The deer I let walk last year was killed anyway by someone on the next ridge, with the same hopes of just being able to see a deer

Try to be out there ever weekend no matter which season
Last year I hunted a lot but seen more bucks then does,You know the saying you've got to see a doe to kill it.lol

I have always hunted during all 3 seasons. Some years I've missed out on archery. I hunted archery last year and may hunt it some this year but in the future I can't see myself hunting it much if any. My property that I hunt doesn't allow for killing and I had prefer to hunt bucks with a muzzle loader and rifle.

Can't help but to feel this limit thing is more beneficial to those in clubs such as the one you speak of,It for sure don't benefit those hunting clubs with alot of members or those hunting public land.Guess it destroys any animal taken with a bow is a trophy in it's on right

Love to stay and chat but just like deer season I'm a real go get"er,Why just this mourning I took the wife to work and now it's time to go get"er

I don't hunt in any clubs. Landowners don't want doe's to be killed

I hunted all three last year. Who knows this year. May be finished by the time rifle season starts.

I hunt all 3.I may slack down during bow season now to wait on the rut.the new limits suck
With that being said wonder the statistics on the two buck club that hunted with all three weapon choices

I hunt all 3, and wish the limit had been left alone. I intend to do my best to get the 3 deer I need for the year as early as possible, and then I'll just duck hunt through the rest of the season.

I hunt all seasons and would hunt stick season if there was one. The club I hunt is strictly managed and puts a premium on killing does so I use archery season to kill as many as possible. If needed I will kill a doe during ML but like to use most of the rut for buck hunting. A lot of important scouting is done during these early seasons. Also you stay tuned into what stage the deer are in and what areas they use. I work the bugs out of my setups and techniques as well. I guess if you hunt small acreage you could put too much pressure on the deer before the rut but thankfully the club I hunt is quite large.

I agree that the new limit change will give people more time to small game hunt....and that is a huge plus
