I don't much about Old Hickory, but we use a 1/16 oz jig head with a #4 hook with a 1 inch piece of nightcrawler on it. Place the boat where we can cast just to the bank and very slow roll it along the bottom. The shellcrackers will usually just tap it. Give a little slack, 1001, 1002 and set the hook. The big bluegill will usually jerk it out of your hands. Somedays they will be on mud flat banks and some days on rocky shoals. Better have a lot of jig heads. That is why I pour my own. AMG; No hair or grub on the jig just a bare jig with the piece of night crawler. The color of the jig head didn't seem to matter a lot although most of them were silver pearl. Clear water.
