I have a history with this deer.

Most of you remember last year, on November 18, 2021 I shot a decent 8 point that got up and ran off after I took a picture of it laying on the ground. Here's the link.

Fast forward to yesterday, November 21, 2022 I was hunting the same farm, sitting under the same tree, but a totally different style of hunt. Last year was 7mm-08 scoped and ready for anything. This year 30-30 wanting close shot.

After examining and skinning the deer from yesterday, I found the bullet in his neck from last year. Amazing how tough these animals are.

Pictures from last year, yesterday, and this morning when I found the bullet.

It may be, but not from the 7-08mm brachial stun he gave him, looks like he already had it on him.
I tend to disagree, he was a perfect symmetrical 8 point last year at the time of shooting. Messed up rack is opposite side to entry of the last years bullet. IMO that is what caused the deformity in the antlers.

Very possible, but it doesn't look like it on the antler. Notice how the beam looks normal until the big odd "lump" in the spike antler. That looks VERY much like a wound to the velvet antler.

Again, his odd right side could be because of the wound from last year, but maybe not. Most body injury induced antler deformities produce a very different growth pattern and almost always involve injury to a limb instead of neck or body trunk.

I was going to ask what his antlers were like last year. Kind of figured his antlers got messed up from the injury.

Crazy story. Glad you got him this year. Congratulations.

Do you think it's odd that the very same buck suffered a gunshot wound, AND an antler wound within 12 months apart?
