You get an invite to hunt a swamp in LA for hogs. Rifle hunt. Visibility will be under 50 yards on average. Basically you will be walking "ridges that are about 12" above water with sloughs that are 6" - 3' deep running parallel between ridges.
Strategy is to sneak n peek through thick and nasty palmetto thicketts and try to blast a hog before it sees/smells you and tears off across the sloughs (which is common)
Which gun do you go for.
1. Marlin 30-30 lever cranker with simmons 44mag 3-9x40 scope. 170gr round nose coreloks.
2. Borrow friends flat top AR in .308 with a burris 3-10x40 scope. Shooting handloads with premimum bullets.
I'm thinking at 50 yds and under there isn't a huge advantage to either one.
