I got drawn on the bow hunt next weekend at Hiwassee. just wondering if anyone has any info on the place. I had never been there before but went yesterday just to get an idea. didn't get to look much as I had to get back home and pick up the kids. I guess my questions would be these. I have read about hunting the island and can take my boat but the 2 ramps at the ferry are not very big and I would hate to pull it down there and not have a place to park. does anyone know if there are usually a lot that hunt the island because I hate to walk in on people set up even though I know it happens to everybody on these hunts. also I drove down to wildlife viewing area and they had the gates closed. didn't know if those would be open or not or if you could even hunt that area. I have called the area manager but have not got an answer so was hoping someone would have an idea about these things. The area didn't seem well marked for hunting but I could have missed that. if I don't hunt the island then I am just trying to figure a road to get to a huntable area so that I can look at it on the map. Any info anyone has would be greatly appreciated. thanks

The islands used to get a lot of hunters in the past. I haven't hunted them in several years for that reason. The main gate at the wild life viewing area should be open during the bow hunt, the gates for roads past that will not be open. Any place on that farm is good to hunt. You can also hunt the property on the right as you were going to the boat ramp. Look at the map for the part that is off of Armstrong ferry rd there is a lot of property on that road down to the farm on the end of the road.

Ok cool. Thank you Medic. I will look at that Armstrong ferry road on the maps. Also good to know about the gates being up during the hunt. Thanks again
