Help with scope choice

I need some advice. I have looked at multiple websites and read the reviews and I understand the differences. I'm just looking for some personal opinions. I have a Ruger SR762 and have done some work to it and now it's time for optics. I have looked at the Nikon M308 scope which would be plenty of scope for anything I would need and cost around $500. But, I can get a Leupold Mark 4 LR/T through government program for $702 which is normally a $1400 scope. So, do I just spend the $500 for the Nikon or do I put forth the extra $200 for the Leupold? I am just using the gun to hunt and shoot in the backyard with. Thanks for the replies!

If you got the money, get the leupold. The nikon can't hold a candle to the luepold. If anything, you can sell the leupold and buy the nikon with the money you make and you end up with a free scope.

Yep go with Leupold. After having disastrous results with Nikon warranty department I would not trust Nikons warranty. Leuoold glass is much better IMHO . I know guys who have used these scopes in wartime and swear by them.

I would deff look at the Vortex line. I went over the wknd and picked up a set of the Diamondback binos and love them. Cant beat their warranty either. All my scope and mine, the wifes, and my daughter's will be swapped to them over the summer...

The Diamondback HP line is an incredible value for the price. If you do buy them, get them from Cameralandny.com and buy an open box unit. Most of the ones I bought as open box came sealed from the factory but I paid a fair amount less than the new price.

I've given the vortex line a fair shake and on more than one occasion.

Most recently it was these two models heads up.

The Crossfire II with vBright 1x4
And the Leupold Hogg 1x4

Both have similar specs. 30mm ?tube and a lot of the other specs,,FOV Eye Relief and sucjh were so close it was not even worth debating.

So it came down to optic clarity. The two were not even in the same class. The Leupold was far and above the Crossfire.

So price you say?

Ok the Crossfire can be purchased for about $250 where the Leupold is $469. You can buy the Same Leuoold Hogg scope without the Firedot for about $209.

There were several Bushnell and Simmons scopes that I thought were in the same class as the cross fire from a optic clarity standpoint.. This has been my same observation when judging them in the past.

Not to split hairs but you can't compare the crossfire to a VX-R. They are totally different classes of scopes. The more proper comparison would be the vortex viper pst 1-4x24 to the Leupold VX-R hog 1-4x24. Not saying the vortex would beat out the VX-R, just saying its the proper comparison. Also, I don't believe the non-illuminated 1-4x24 is the same quality of glass as the VX-R model. The glass of the VX-R model is somewhere between a VX2 and VX3 where as the non-illuminated model is closer to a VX1 which would be a better comparison to the crossfire but still a slightly higher class of scope. The crossfire is a $100 scope with an illuminated reticle which pushes the price up to $200. Its still $100 glass which means Leupold doesn't make a cheap enough scope to be a good comparison with the crossfire. The vortex diamondback would be the proper scope to compare to the non-illuminated leupold Hog 1-4x24, but I don't think the diamondback comes in a 1-4x24.

i use a 1-4x Vortex Viper PST on my M&P10 and its a good scope.

I am however wanting to get an ATN X-sight. so if you want a decent deal on a very lightly used in perfect shape version in a Vortex cantilever mount using the proper torque specs, shoot me a PM.
