My boys are hunting up north and shot this earlier today. Anyone have any ideas what it might be?

I was gonna ask if he had another picture of the tail.
That was my second guess.

I am waiting on additional pics of bill and tail. I'm guessing a mix of some type.

Mick was correct, according to DNR. I have shot a few Old Squaw in Washington State. However, they were full plumage drakes. The eyes on this one are different as well. At least if I am remembering correctly.

Apparently they are killing a few on the Mississippi this year.

It is not rare that a few squaws get killed on the lower unit of Old Hickory along with some scoters.
