Hey y'all-

I've got a few days and was planning an extended hunt so I figured I'd check out LBL. I've heard all about it from my dad and his hunting buddies since I was a kid. Any advice for a first timer?

I'm looking to either camp in the Piney section or maybe get a cheap cabin rental. I'm planning on putting some miles under my feet and just enjoying what happens. Any day in the woods is a good one!

Concentrate on learning a single hunt compartment.
There is no significant difference in any one vs another overall, as each has a similar diversity of habitat, including lake frontage, river bottoms, high ridges, etc.

The best compartment is the one you spend the most time in.
I would focus more on the creek bottom areas now.

Also, keep in mind LBL is more akin to a wilderness area than a farmland area. The deer density is relatively low, and unfortunately, the pig density may be greater.

Thanks for the advice. Can you recommend anyone locally I can buy a half truck load of firewood from? I hate paying for the gas station junk and I know the state doesn't want us transporting it from too far away.

I agree. Pick an area and stick with it.

Depending on when you are going I have a downed tree out back that has been down for a while. I will be happy to cut into firewood size for you if you.want to come.pkck.kt up. It is free but we have had some rain here in Clarksville lately.

Like others have said pick an area, my favorites have always been 13 & 15. Get yourself a large topo map and study the terrain and look for remote saddles and pinch points. I liked to go as remote as possible but it is still very hard to get away from other hunters,
Good luck!

Its beautiful country. I wish you the best of luck. Ive never deer hunted it but have predator hunted it.

You'll do well with LBL man's advice about picking an area and sticking with it. All of them are more alike than different.

One thing I'd recommend is paying close attention to rules about driving off road. Several times I've hiked back in a long ways to hunt and ran into hunters who'd driven a half mile back in. Parking is allowed one vehicle length off of a legal road.

Good luck, and hope you do well. I'm jealous!!

I started hunting LBL on the Tn. side when it first opened up. A few years before it opened my friend and I hunted the Ky. section which back then was called Kentucky Woodlands.
I was fortunate enough to live just across the Tn. river from LBL in Henry county for 18 years and could look out the back of our house and see LBL.
I was blessed to live in such a paradise for hunting and fishing.
I hunted and trapped on LBL for many years, I had to move away because of my age and health but I "REALLY" miss it bad.
It has really changed a lot from the early days and the hogs are now a really big problem.
