Uncle!!
Hunted hard yesterday. Swamps, ridges, fields. Saw 3, maybe 4, hen tracks in a field. Zero sign in the woods. Saw 1 hen, in a field. Saw some very old strut marks in the same field.
Got up this morning ready to go home and I cut a gobbler track on the road. I just made 3 different setups in the timber. There was no sign at all. I'm headed home.
All in all it was a great trip. I got to hike in a little over 2 miles with an @ 80 pound pack. I got to enjoy camp coffee in abundance. I had a humming bird fly up to me yesterday. That was pretty cool. I learned a lot about this place.
Probably the most I learned was there must be zero habitat management here. It is awful. Fields not cut. Looks like they clear cut blocks and just let them grow back. So thick there's no way anything can pass through them. Well, except bobcats. I did see one of those entering one of the thick spots. There were bobcat and coyote tracks galore.
A better turkey hunter than me, and there's tons of them, might have done a lot better. Zero gobbling. Slim to no sign. One gobbler track on a gravel road. Late season. There has already been 5 or 6 quotas here this season.
Again, I'm glad I was able to make the trip. I'll do it again if I get drawn, just a lot different.
Thanks for tagging along.
