Headed to a quota hunt. Going 2.5 miles in to set up camp at a solo campsite. I have waited for this all year. Actually longer. I bought this pack to go to Colorado for an elk hunt. That fell through. This will be just as enjoyable for me. Not sure if there is signal there, (hope not!), but will post pictures when I can.

Uncle!!

Hunted hard yesterday. Swamps, ridges, fields. Saw 3, maybe 4, hen tracks in a field. Zero sign in the woods. Saw 1 hen, in a field. Saw some very old strut marks in the same field.

Got up this morning ready to go home and I cut a gobbler track on the road. I just made 3 different setups in the timber. There was no sign at all. I'm headed home.

All in all it was a great trip. I got to hike in a little over 2 miles with an @ 80 pound pack. I got to enjoy camp coffee in abundance. I had a humming bird fly up to me yesterday. That was pretty cool. I learned a lot about this place.

Probably the most I learned was there must be zero habitat management here. It is awful. Fields not cut. Looks like they clear cut blocks and just let them grow back. So thick there's no way anything can pass through them. Well, except bobcats. I did see one of those entering one of the thick spots. There were bobcat and coyote tracks galore.

A better turkey hunter than me, and there's tons of them, might have done a lot better. Zero gobbling. Slim to no sign. One gobbler track on a gravel road. Late season. There has already been 5 or 6 quotas here this season.

Again, I'm glad I was able to make the trip. I'll do it again if I get drawn, just a lot different.

Thanks for tagging along. 👍🏼

Bummer on the hunt but the camping spot looks like it's got some great scenery.
I really enjoyed the trip. It ain't all in the killin'.

As I was driving out I looked left out my truck window and a hen came flying out of a bottom and over my truck. LOL Must have been some hikers or something jumped her up.

There are other areas I want to explore if/when I get to go back. 👍🏼

I'm sure that was a very enjoyable trip even though the hunt was not great for you.I use to just love camping and backpacking.

Dont ya know thats exactly what twra calls management, clear cut it and leave🤬
Not sticking up for twra. Don't know what the goals were for that property. When I worked for IN DNR some times we created openings in forest for warm season grasses or food plots. Some times we just cut and let it grow wild. It is a practice to kind of checkerboard the area and have different year classes of forest. Lots of animals like forest that are 1 to 10 years old.
Edit: I should have added that we would prescribe burn those areas not just grow wild.

No 💩, go read their mission statement and you will see what and who they are managing for
