Not seen this in a deer before, but have killed several rabbits with wolves buried up in their skin… once the host is dead and bloodflow stops, they will try to work themselves out of their burrow in the hosts skin.
Shot one last year had a bunch of them. Nasal cavities and upper throat were full of bots wonder how he was able to breathe. 22-15 of them they're kinda gross but the deer is find to eat. Just parasites like ticks.
I shot a buck a few years ago that stood up out of his bed and started having a sneeze attack about 25yds from me. Never knew he was there and probably wouldn't have ever seen him if it wasn't for him hosting such a nasty thing.
