I have struggled over the years trying to find the perfect hat . It seems what works on warm days does not work on cold days what works on cold days is too hot when it warms up mid day. On wet days your just SOL.

So this year I started using a dual hat . Just a plain fitted ball cap and then I carry a knitted watch cap to pull down over it on cool mornings . On wet days I have a Goretex fitted ball cap and ditto on the watch cap.

The combo sure does the trick . I can regulate the heat .. Cover my ears if need be or take off the watch cap if I get too hot . Ball cap gives me a sun visor or I can flip it around at dusk for added light gathering .

Best thing I have found in all my years by far . I can now literally throw away about 200 hats .

Shave your head. A "regular" ball cap isn't too hot in the warm months and a toboggan wont be too hot in the cold months.

I have a huge Mellon head. Several years ago when I tried out for the duck commander part I was given a Filson Wool cap. This cotton picker costs close to $100. But it comes in XXL. I used it this morning with an orange toboggan on top to make me legal. Perfect solution.
