Got done with work in time to get in the stand. Been seeing deer all over in fields all this week. Got in the stand about 1615. Misty rain and about 50 couple degrees. I see a lone doe across the street heading my way. She didn't enter my field where I expected her. I waited and waited until she came down the tree line to my left. No chance to swing the xbow for a shot. At about 30 feet, she looked right up at me. Didn't blow, didn't run. She just tried to catch wind of me and turned and walked back down the tree line and crossed behind me. She was a lone doe and not one I recognized as one of our residents. I would have taken her but, wasn't disappointed not to. Had a gut feeling, and kept watching where she came from. 3 minutes later, I see a nice body coming down. I can see horns, not big but again, not a resident. He comes into my field looking for his mistress to be. Hangs out just out of my comfort zone for a xbow shot. He started coming my way just as my wife pulls in the driveway. OMG!!! She was here to pick up my son. I'm so glad she waited for him and didn't get out. This guy came to about 20 yrds and I let fly. Lighted knock glowing in all it's brilliance lands beneath him as he bolts back across the field, across the street, and up the hill. I got down and inspected my bolt. Nothing better than bubbly blood on the fletches. I gave him about 15 minutes and began the search. I went where I thought he did. My bad, I didn't look for blood first. I searched, and searched. I looked over about 3 acres of thicket and woods. Could not find him. Now it's dark. Flash light in hand and head lamp on head, I start looking for blood. Finally, I find some and start trailing. Ha!!! There he was!!! My dumb butt walked past him 3 times on the wrong side of a patch of trees. An hour of searching when he was right there. He ran about 50yrds from where I stuck him. Double lung and clipped the aorta. Not my biggest but, meat is meat. A nice 5 for the freezer.
