I had a good guess how old this deer was last year when I saw him, and this year when I shot him. Jawbones say something different though. Aside from the jacked up spot on the left premolar area, he looks to have a good bit of wear. I'm gonna send the incisors in for CA aging just to see what they say.

When the enamel starts cupping on that first molar, I lean towards 6. But the rear molars don't quite suggest 6. So I'll go with 5+.

Left side hes missing a tooth. Looks possibly ingrown with the abnormal defect where it should be. Could this have caused some excessive wear?

I don't know, the wear is pretty even otherwise. I guessed he was 3.5 last year and 4.5 this year. But those deer are small in those woods. This is the deer Sunday morning before I shot him.

Yes I do see even wear as well. Nice buck regardless though and looking forward to your story. Will be interesting to see his age the results whe you get them

5.5 by the jawbone for sure.

Was this the buck that lost all the weight you posted earlier? If so, he put back on a lot of weight in the pic above. That could explain why he was undersized body wise

Based on the wear, I would probably guess at least 5.5. Your pics of the deer on the hoof looks like a younger deer.

Tooth wear aging imo has flaws, especially when looking at diet.
