My 9 year old grandson just passed his Hunter Safety Course a couple weeks ago and has been excited about turkey season. We went last weekend and set up a blind near a field edge where I've hunted turkeys in the past. He was out of bed and ready to go by 6:00 am. We got to the blind just at day break and a Gobbler was gobbling across the field from the roost. We got in the blind and set everything up. I called and he answered from the roost. We did that a couple times before he flew down. Then he stopped gobbling for about 30 minutes. I called and he gobbled from a hollow to our right about 150 yds away. I got him to cross the hollow and come up in the ridge that we were on. I called and he double gobbled. I knew he was fired up and heading g our way. I told my grandson to get ready. Then I saw him through the trees coming up an old log road toward us. There are two shooting lanes to that old road. I told him the turkey was going to walk out from behind a tree into the shooting lane at 27 yards. When he did the boy pulled the trigger on his 410 with Apex Ninjas and the turkey went down. I had a very excited boy after that. To top it all off today is his birthday party for an upcoming birthday!!!
