Today I got to play with a Marlin XL7 at the range today, helped a buddy mount up his scope and make up some relaods for him. Man this rifle flat shoots great for somthing that sells for $300. It's got a speed bump in it though that needs to come out in my opinion.

Never thought I'd say anything nice about a Remington owned company. This trigger is pure bliss, once you get the little dohickey pressed in you better be ready to shoot,I really doubt if the thing is 4 Lbs. The recoil pad is awesome, who'd have thought the thing feels like I'm shooting a .243.

I loaded up 4 - 90gr loads and took some of my loads for the Rem. custom in 100gr Sierras and some of the Mausers in 117gr Hornady. I had alot of work to do at the range da gummed turkey hunters shot up all the backstops,so we took our time, shot one load, cleaned and let it cool down to a cold barrel,it was about 55 here today with just a slight breeze. Heres how it panned out. All of these were 4 shot groups, shot off Cadwell bags.

AA 2700@49gr Sierra 90gr HP 0.710" 3 shots and the last one a flyer.

W760 @ 52 gr Sierra 90gr HP 1.312"

Varget @ 44gr Sierra 90gr HP 0.639" 3 shots and the last one a flyer.

H1000 @ 60gr Sierra 90gr HP 1.053" 3 shots last one a flyer.

AA3100 @ 54.9gr Sierra 100gr BT two groups 0.600" and 0.476" and yes the last of each set a flyer, this speed bump is coming out.

H1000 @ 57.5gr Hornady 117gr Shot three groups with this load.

0.491" - 0.501" - 0.565" Yep flyers again on the 4th shot

I agree that pressure pad in the stock needs removed! Once the barrel heats up that little pad in the stock will nearly always cause a flyer! What caliber?

25-06
Yep we took it out last night. I think Marlin might have a winner here and to think I laugh at them when they first came out. Can't wait for mine to get here,I'll have everything figured out by that time. :D

 Thanks for the report.

Seems I recall saying something on here like IF they shoot as good as they looked an handled look out Savage... :D :D :D :D

a Savage wannabe!! lol i bet now that remington owns marlin, the prices will double. kinda like when remington outbid charles daley on the mauser and mini mauser, and turned around and sold the same rifle for double.

other than that, looks like it shoots real good groups. what does the stock feel like on it, does the forend flex?

Actually the stock is pretty stiff, kinda feels like the old ADL stocks but I think the angle of the butt is a little different,it fits me better.

WTM,
I wouldn't bet against your above.

Tikkbuck,
What color is the M in the grip cap?? assumeing yours has one in it. Have seen different colors or none at all.

It was either silver or white,I'll have to look next time I see him. I should be getting mine next week I hope. They are different?
