Settled in this morning over looking a wheat/clover plot where I've been seeing a lot of sign the last few days planning on staying all day. With barely enough light to see, a basket rack 8 chases a doe across the hill in front of me, 10 minutes later another small 8 chases another doe across the food plot in front of me. Another 15 or so minutes passes and I have a young spike come charging into the food plot by himself checking things out. He started wearing a little shrub out when something catches his attention on top of the hill across from him, so he take off up the hill toward it. In a few seconds a doe comes running off the hill with the spike right behind her and 20 yards behind them was in my book a pretty good 9 pt. He chases down the hill and stops 40 yards broad side, I pull the trigger click nothing happens. Doe takes off up the hollow with him in tow while I try to find and change 209 primers thinking I had missed out on a good opportunity. Thankfully the ol doe came into a funnel we created and ran straight across the food plot with spike and the 9 right behind. I tried every way possible to stop him but he could care less what was going on. He slowed down enough in the middle of the plot for me to put a confident shot on him and the hornady's did the rest. One of the most action packed hours I've ever spent in the woods as I had him on the ground right at 6:30. Not a giant but for me and the property I took him on I will take it!
