I've been talking to my grandpa, and he told me back in his field around an old swamp, that he used to find many arrowheads all the time...back when the field used to be plowed. So I'm planning on going out soon and hunt for them.

I do have a question, how far would you dig around to find one, since that field has not been plowed in around 15 yrs+?

They will be anywhere from 1/2 inch deep to as deep as you can dig depending on the soil type.. if your going to dig with a shovel, you might want to make a screen to screen the dirt through.. the ones I find are usually so few and far in between I wouldnt have the heart to go out into a field and just start digging trying to find one.. if there happens to be a creek nearby I would walk it and look there first.. good luck!

It's usually hard clay, with a little creek that runs above, what used to be a swamp. I don't plan on digging much, hopefully erosion and the creek has sent a few in sight.
Thank you, I'll be sure to post if I get lucky and find one!

Turn that field with a turning plow and walk it. Then walk it after a rain. Keep walking it for 3 or 4 more rains and then disc the field. Walk it immediately after discing and after every rain.

If you are going to dig you should look for high ground near the creek and do test holes and sift the dirt. 10 or 12 test wholes and you should be able to find the site. You would have to dig at least 15" down to get to unplowed ground. You could find stuff from the top to 20' deep. I would love to come and dig with you!!!

Thank you all! I know he don't want the field workedup again, so I'm gonna try those test holes. I was told be my uncle that most was found on a little ridge in between the creek and the swamp (due to the angle that the creek enters the swamp).

Well my uncle said they used to find spearpoints as well there (then sold/gave them away), so I kinda wish my grandpa would plow the field again, or allow more people to hunt with me...any help, helps
