After working way too many hours last week by boss sent me home early to hit the woods. I came home picked up my 13 yo son and we headed out. We were setup about 70 yards apart. Too thick and far to see each other but I want to be able to hear him if he yells. I get him to his stand make sure he is strapped in then go to mine. About 6 I am watching 3 nice bucks walking towards me. The wind is in my face and at about 50 yards something gets my attention out of the corner of my eye. A spike walks up down wind and bust me. He goes towards the bucks I am watching and the 4 of them head around the clearing I am hunting. I wait a bit and text my son that I will be climbing down in 5 min and for him to wait for me. He hadn't seen anything all evening. As I get down he text me and says "2 bucks don't come" I sat there and waited and if was killing me. He then calls me and says "I got him". I told him to stay where he is and I'll come get him. When I get to him an he climbs down I ask what happened. He tells me two bucks came out right after I said I was in my way. He says the smaller one was a 8 and he had him broadside at 20 yards. He wanted the other one which was much bigger and thicker. So he waited until he was at 23 yards and took the shot. He was worried he was a little too far back an the arrow was sticking out it did not pass through. We waited an hour before we even started looking for blood. Found a lot of blood and started following it. We followed the blood about 40 yards and I got nervous and used my head instead of my heart and we backed out. We would find spots about 8 or 9 inches around and then just drips every foot or so to the next 8 or 9 inch spot. Blood was bright red and there were bubbles in the larger spots. I think he one lunged him. He is pulling 47 pounds on his bow and using cut on impact fixed broadheads. We are getting up at 6 ( he is in fall break and I called the boss to say I'll be late) and going to start tracking. He has killed does with a rifle but this would be his first bow deer and first buck. He thinks it may have been a tall brow time buck we have been getting pictures of. I am so nervous and anxious I can't sleep. It's killing me. Wish us luck and I'll hopefully post pictures of my boy next to him tomorrow.
