Why would you even ask that? of course youo do if you are not going to go again. Otherwise, why would that even cross your mind? Do you think they are all dead?

I never give up on shooting a mature buck during the season (or any buck if that's what you're looking for). I actually look forward to this time of year because a lot of hunters have already given up hunting for the year.

4 out of the last 5 bucks I've killed in TN were killed in December. I shot a 4.5 year old last week.

Keep at it till the end. Just hunt for deer. If a buck shows up, shoot him. If not, shoot a doe or fawn for the meat if you are in a unit that lets you shoot them. Have you killed a deer yet?

Kept on trying. I missed a buck in bow season last year. Never thought I would see him again. Sure enough my very last hunt of the year he came around again and I got him.

I have been about 5 or 6 times. Haven't seen any, only doe. Should I try calling them this time of year?

I am not giving up..but losing confidence lol.

Here again, if oyu haven't seen one, why call? Change times you hunt, places you hunt, how you hunt. If you are not seeing deer, change what you are doing but calling is not the answer. Save that for when you see one and it is not doing what you want.

Wait a minute. Are you seeing does? If so youo are in the right place.

Killed my biggest deer to date last year on December 23rd. A 143 inch typical 10 he was aged at 4.5-5.5. So don't give up bud you never know when them ol die dappers going to roll through

1st year hunting don't give up keep on keeping on.Are you learning by yourself or do you have someone to give you some tips ??The deer might be there but have you figured out.

Season's not over yet is it?

Haven't you seen all those videos on TV where they always get their deer on the last day at last light with their last bullet on their last hunt?

Right now is a great time to catch a shooter coming in late to a food source not to mention we are still seeing some chasing

are you in unit L? If so then shoot one of the does. Maybe you will get lucky with a buck too, but if you don't, at least you killed a deer.

Where are you hunting JC?!! I am in Unit B

Hickman county. In years past, when you saw a deer coming through the woods, you just knew it was a doe. Last year and this year are completely the opposite. Most, I believe, are due to our logging and surrounding properties logging. A lot of improved habitat around with does and bucks altering their seasonal ranges a bit

nothing wrong with blind calling ..... few bleats then 10 min later a few grunts ...... repeat every 45 min or so..... but be still after each calling session .. patience and being still are the keys to calling, but rattling at this time imo is no good

How much land are you hunting ??It is easy to overhunt a small piece of land . Hunt different stands at different times if you can.
Movement is very important !!! Even up in the air in a stand they can see your least little move.
It is also the best way to spot a buck before he sees you.Often the 1st thing I see is a tail wag or a ear twitch. I can promise you it is not like on T.V. shows with a Big Buck trotting out into a field every time you go. Once the shooting starts and the Rut is over the Big Bucks will be in thick cover in the light of day.Food is scarce this time of year.If you can set up to watch a Honeysuckle patch you might have a better chance.

If you have a good food source I would concentrate on the afternoon hunts rather than the morning hunts this time of the season. We saw the biggest deer on our property last year on a food plot in December (and several more bucks to boot). Our morning sightings were minimal so we began just hunting the afternoons. I think unpressuring them in the morning helped some. It is not over, just may think about changing the way you are hunting.

Keep on hunting.Once deer season 2012 is over it will never come around again. Long time until the end of September if you bow hunt.very long time until Gun season rolls around again.

You may need to scout the area to figure out what the deer are doing. Figure out their food source: browse? food plot?

If possible, be as mobile as you can. Throw a stand on your back and hunt a new area. Also, spend an evening in a location that allows you to overlook a large area.

Don't be afraid to hunt midday- especially if you are hunting a small tract of land. By now, every deer in the area has you patterned and knows when you leave the stand. You may not see many deer, but the one you do see could be a shooter.

If your property has been heavily pressured, you may want to just leave the area alone for a week or two. If the weather isn't ideal, do something else and let the area rest.

I'm also not a fan of blind calling. At this point in the season bucks are more interested in feeding than fighting. Also, some bucks have had their tails whipped and want no part in any more fighting. I also don't like giving deer a reason to go downwind of me when they might not have to begin with.
