I just acquired an old .22 in a trade. The thing reeks of cigarette smoke. I knew it could get in fabric and stuff, but I never really thought about it getting on a gun. Smells just like the inside of smokers ac units. I dint have time to give it a cleaning tonight. I just sprayed the whole thing down will Ballistol and wiped it off. Maybe a good thorough cleaning will get rid of it. Any idea if the Ballistol don't kill it.

Baking soda may do it. If it can take the fish smell out of a freezer I'm sure it'll help with cig smoke.

To a non smoker you may never get the smell out of it . The second hand residual is imbedded in that wood and likely will never come out . I would suggest moving it to a new home and getting one from a non smoking home or new. Can u imagine what tgat guys lungs look like ?? Geese

Years ago I bought a Rem 760 in .35 Rem that came out of NH. It had such a strong cigarette odor it was sickening; no wonder it needed a new owner! I got the cigarette odor out by putting it out in the hot sun alternating sides from day to day and wiping it off with an alcohol dampened paper towel between sunbaths. It took a couple of weeks of this treatment but it got out the cigarette smell. It went on to become a favorite deer rifle. I've killed 25-30 deer with it over the last 20 years or so.

I would try to ozone it in a small ozone chamber. If it is a wood stock, you can refinish the stock but put a coat of shellac on first to seal the wood and then finish on top of the shellac. It really needs to be broken down into its major parts and fully cleaned with the porous wood refinished.

The ballistol didn't work. I was thinking of try wrapping it up in a trash bag with baking soda next.

I tried that. Well not like a liberal soaking but I sprayed it enough to get it wet and rubbed it around on it. It didn't do it either.
