In my limited camera usage I have one mature buck who has black stripes on the back of his ears, and now I have a single fawn with similar stripes on the back of his ears....is this a pattern/phase that certain deer may go through or is this genetics between father and offspring? Here's the pics...

Very well could be hereditatry. But both of those deer could be the offspring of the same doe, so it doesn't have to be a father-offspring linked trait.
