game ball ?

a friend of mine had a stone ball that was perfectly round,about 1 1/2 in,had a small ring around it about a 1/4 in from the top and another about 1/2 in below it ,the rings were worn in also a perfect line,,grey in color,,any ideas,,sorry no pictures,found under a bluff about 20 yrs ago

My brother had one. He researched and found that they would put them in the fire and then see who could throw them the farthest.

It's probably a hammer stone for knapping flint. I've used one many times makimg arrow heads, both original used ones and ones I've picked up from a creek myself.
