Anyone hunt there before?

Grizzly Johnson said:Well the few times I have been there it was $100 per person, per day.... There were two pits on the "hill" (front pit & back pit) that hold 10 people each (don't think that included the guide).... So you can imagine when a couple of duck fly over what it sounds like.... and who killed what duck is a coin toss....
The pits are warm thanks to propane heaters and dry.... You can bring your own food (don't think they feed you as part of the fee).
The last time we hunted there, 8 Federal guys (2 black suburbans) in their suits & uniforms/fatigues were waiting to check everyone at the parking area. They went through everything and then some.... wanted to know EXACTLY who killed what (species & numbers)....
I don't know if it was because of hunting next to the refuge or what.... but of the times I have been checked by a TWRA, that was the most thorough I have ever been checked... maybe because they were Federal guys??
The owners / guides were nice the times I went.... like I said, the dad was still living the last time I was there, although he wasn't guiding any longer.... his son was.
The set-ups were nice and the decoy spread was very large, probably the biggest I have seen in person... mostly full bodies and shells.... planted winter wheat/corn stubble and water areas.
If the birds are moving it can be a good time.... I went the first time because I had always heard about it growing up and the other times was because I was invited along with a gruop.... Having 10-20 guys shoot at 3-4 birds just doesn't excite me.
Best of luck and keep us updated of your success. If there are birds on the refuge and moving around, you will atleast get to enjoy the sights and sounds.
