There were about 44 counties last night that had issued frost warnings.....I dont think we had any in South Lawrence county that i could tell. How about everyone else across the state. As many of you may know the Oaks were in bloom in most areas and even my chestnut trees were starting to bloom. Did anyone note any serious damage?

We did not have any serios damage in Nashville. I was planning on putting out tomatoes this weekend if I could find the time but now I am worried about another freak frost. Oh well. No risk no reward Right? And good fresh home grown tomatoes are a huge reward so I guess I will risk it.

i looked at some cherry & peach trees at moms yesterday & they still had some blooms that looked fine along with some pea sized cherrys & thumb sized peaches,mike243

Occasional frost in the springtime is an annual event that all southern plant species are adapted to. It's the extended deep freeze like we had last year that was the cause for concern. Three days below freezing is definitely something our plant species are not tolerant of. I think we will be just fine this year (save for the red oak).

gonna be a good year :)

I am thinking the same thing, its even looking like rainfall will be above normal, our area is about 6" above average on yearly rainfall

Yep BSK , i have not seen any damage at all to anything the last few days out so i would say we are really sitting pretty!!!

I don't have scientific or botany proof to back it up, but I
predict there will be a good crop of acorns this fall. Last year
was very strange, related to the weather. I guess what I'm basing my prediction on, is simular situations over the past 40
years. Total mast failure in the late sixties, caused a great
squirrel migration. The experts said it would be bad next year
too. The next year, you couldn't hardly stand up, for acorns
rolling under your feet.

I've quit trying to predict acorn crops before-hand. I've never found a consistant pattern as to what produces a big crop or poor crop (other than a late freeze).

Hey Rkenny.......I remember that bad year in the 60's when squirrels almost got wiped!!!
They were eating anything and everything I remember them stripping corn out of the husks for row after row after row!!!
Never again seen anything quiet like it!!!
Dad never remembered anything like it either and i remember him and my older brother talking much about that.

camoman270,
I did a little research a while back, and found that the "great
squirrel migration" wasn't just in Tn. and the southeast. It
covered a big portion of the eastern U.S. I remember seeing alot
of dead squirrels on the roads back then. I also remember seeing
photos in the news paper. One photo showed hundreds, if not
thousands of squirrels, swimming the Tennessee River.

Goggle squirrel migration on the computer. There are some
interesting articles on this rare event. Most conclusions were,
that mast failure caused it. I also remember, that the then
Tennessee Game and Fish Commission, imposed a huge limit on them.
I can't remember exactly, but it seems like it was 12 or 15.
