Anyone else out there that would rather process your own deer than pay a processor? I've used processors in the past but wasn't happy with the final product. Maybe it's that I'm to picky or to cheap lol. I like being able to cut the meat exactly how I prefer. I also got a $90 electric grinder for burger meat that works well. It is some work but I've gotten pretty good at plus I enjoy it. Get some tunes going and a cooler of cold ones and I'll get after it. Anyone else prefer to process your deer yourselves?

I do. I know what happens to the meat from when it hits the ground till it's in my belly! And I know it's the same deer I shot and not some idiots deer who drove around showing it off in the bed of his truck for 3 days when it's 65 degrees outside

I'm with you one all three: tunes, cold ones, and cleaning my own. I'll still use a processor on occasion b/c of lack of extra time. But, I prefer to do it myself to save the money.

Been doing my own for many, many years.
saves me some $$$ and a better end product. Also do my own taxidermy.
Guess I'm a tight wad, lol.

I wish I had the time and knowledge to do it myself but until that happens its to the processor for me.

That is some great looking work there though!

I am in awe of how clean that meat is! I do my own to but it would take me a week to get ALL the silver skin off. good job!

Good looking meat. I do my own also and the end product is just what you have there, nothing but 100% meat with none of that silver skin. That crap makes eating Jerky a pain in the butt.

Always have done my own. Takes a few hours, but it's well worth it. I have the meat grinder attachment for my wife's KitchenAid mixer and it works awesome.

I have use one those Havalon knives that comes with replaceable blades. Best investment I've made. I even use it on fish. Only problem is that if you cut yourself it's going to be a good bleeder. They are surgical blades

So what all you got there Buck? I take my to a processor but hate the fact that I don't know if I get my deer back. Is the big pile on the right throwaway?

Yea the pile on the right is throw away. I've got steaks cut out of the hind quarters (top of tray on the left) jerky strips (middle left of table)cubes to grind (on the tray to the left) and I cut my tender loins into cubes for roll ups (center) and I cut my back straps into butterfly steaks (not yet done in pic).

There's no way I could afford to pay to process the deer I kill. I killed my first when I was 11, old man told me to watch closely he would only show me once. I'm over 80 of my own and with friends I've done I figure close to 100... how much $$$ is that?

I did have one processed due to an emergency... I will say I felt confident I got my deer back and everything was good... minus the burger. For some reason the burger was VERY gamey and I had to throw it away.
