Looks like the cold has finally pushed some birds down. Too bad these are not in an area that you can hunt. Yesterday they had some canvasbacks in the group.

What are those with the green striped heads?

I have heard some call them "Baldplate" ducks but most know them as a Wigeon (American Wigeon).

Negative, the weir below South Holston dam. Today we had buffleheads, ringnecks, bluebills, red heads, canvasbacks, wigeon, and mallards.

I have rode all around looking at and for ducks for many years, but I have never went to Steele Creek to do it. Plenty of geese out there and many have leg bands, but never have gone out there in the winter. Now fishing is another story in the spring. Some monsters live in that place. Worked out there for 2 summers years back. A jon boat with an electric trolling motor and a couple dozen minnows, and you are good to go.
