I am new to the food plot arena. I have property in Western PA and have 2 food plots each about 3/4 acres. I planted clover 2 years ago for the first time with mixed results. I never treated with herbicide before but I need to start for sure as there is a mixture of grass and weeds. I am using a ATV 25 gal tank sprayer w/ 2 nozzles. I am planning to use Clephodim 2E and Butyrac 200 2-4 DB with a Maximer Crop oil. Mixing ratios seem to be all over the place. Any recommendations on mixing ratios? Thanks

This, and add 12 oz of crop oil.
When clover is heat stressed I will use a non-ionic surfactant, it is thinner and seems to reduce burning of the clover.

When spraying try to move at a consistent speed. With 20 gallon / acre nozzles I like to move about 5 mph no more than 8 mph and minimize overlap as over dosing will burn the clover.

Very interesting. Thanks!

And yes, my clover is VERY heat and drought stressed right now. Looks rather puny.

Couple of things. There is a max annual application of Cleth. You do you. I try to keep to the label directions.

Technique. Early in the year, I do mix the 24DB and Cleth and spray the whole field.

Later in the year I do two separate applications. One of 24DB and then another of Cleth. I have spots of grass. Spots of broadleaf. Because I am not working 100s of acres, I can easily do two applications. It is the equivalent of spot spraying with a 25 gal tank and 4 nozzles. I race around from one spot to the next and then slow down and turn the pump on when I am over either concentrations of grass or weeds. This is cheaper, and I believe in using the least amount of chemical as possible. Why spray Cleth on your broadleafs? Or 24db on your grass?

Also, now is the least effective time of year to spray. When it is hot and dry the plants don't take the poison into their system like they do when it is moist and the plants are young and tender. Like me.
