Ok, so at the end of last season I bought a CVA wolf and plan to get it out this year for my first year muzzleloading. I plan to take it maybe tomorrow to a range and shoot it and sight it in if I put a scope on it. Do I sight in at 50 or 100 yards? anyone have a combo of powder / bullets that these CVA wolfs like?? any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

he using the CVA wolf? how often does he have to swab / clean etc? This gun has yet to even be fired. Its still brand new in the box.

I think I may try the xtp's. I am guessing those are hornady's sabots that are a .44 cal bullet in a .50 cal sabot, correct?
After reading online seems like others seem to like that as well.

OK, just got back from wally world. I bought a bullet starter, a pack of 100 triple seven pellets, with a box of winchester 209 triple seven primers. Now I still gotta get bullets. They didnt have much to choose from besides some expensive powerbelts in a box of 12. They did have some cheap saboted TC bullets at 250 grains I thought about trying.
Now, I also bought a can a spray bore foam cleaner. Can I use rem oil for just rust prevent??

I can't find scope bases at all for this gun. Tried academy gander and Wally. Also can't find any xtp bullets.

With no scope id drop the barrel off & a bucket of hot water & a fat patch on the rod.stick the end in & pull the water up the barrel.works like a charm

thanks for your tips. looks like i wont be ready for the opener since I still cant find any bases. I got to shoot it twice today. I bought some 250gr TC shockwaves and those things wanted to hang on to my ram rod both times.
Any recommendations on what to use to swap with in between shots? Today i just used a dry patch between the first and second. Was going to do a third and it didnt want to go in from corrosion.
What oil do you use? Is rem oil ok or is there something else?

I shot today with just open sights, and it was no go at 100yds, I didnt have any other options to try at any other yardage.

rem oil is fine but keep it lite, that gun will shoot a powerbelt great,295 is my choice.shoot for heart/lungs .they make a tip for your rod for pointy bullets. when the shockwave hangs you can unseat the round from the sabot, not a good thing.also you wont be able to keep a group either.hope you can get a few more rounds down range before saturday

i cleaned last night with the TC17 foam, and then patched clean. After I just put lite coat of rem oil ...looks like new again in the barrel.
I also found my scope mount bases finally at walmart close to my house.

Just a tip CVA barrels like powerbelts if you can't get anything else. Time is getting short. Sorry no ideas on the bases this late. I have several CVA and Winchesters that shoot PB bullets just fine I stay with at least a 295 grain bullet. I used 2 pellets for years but now use 85 grains of 777 loose.

Thanks...I was able to find my bases. I will probably see how well I can get with the shockwaves I have ...hoping to throw a scope on it and maybe sneak out to the range soon to dial it in.

Ok, so after much trouble and trying to get out to get my gun sighted, I was finally able to spend some time this morning and got it dialed in fairly well at 100yds.
