Sowed, mowed, and cultipacked brown top millet for the first time last night. Got over 1/2" of rain an hour after I finished - BUT - screwed up because I forgot I should've planted a couple weeks ago, and now it'll likely not be ready for the dove opener. From what I've read, it takes 60-70 days to mature; and then I should mow some? Then mow more every week or two?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Generally 8 weeks from germination to maturity here in South MS. I would only mow a little at a time as you suggested. I've seen doves feed in it once it matured/browned (after spraying with Gly) and fell over. That's an ideal situation.

The bad thing about brown top is once the seed hits the ground it'll germinate quickly after a rain. If it does, just break the ground and sow wheat over that. Do that in sections as well since you're "supposed" to only plant wheat once.

Don't rush and manipulate it before it's ready as that would be time and money wasted! I won't get to hunt mine on the opener either due to having to re-plant after the rain from Arthur ruined my first planting.
