I went and wandered around the property as much as I could yesterday. An adjoining property owner is select cutting a large tract that adjoins one of our farms. Heavy equipment everywhere. That was a surprise. I also discovered that everything I paid to have bush hogged earlier in the year is a grown up mess again so I am just going to buy a tractor. I put out a camera and some corn a few days ago and swapped the cards out yesterday. This guy and a few of his smaller companions were frequent visitors.

Seems like some productive wandering.

i am thinking, maybe skip the bush hogging for awhile, maybe you can give some deer a place to hang out and maybe take up residence while the logging is under way.

Might place some minerals to catch their attention.

We have 300 acres that is 80% timber and the rest is now just overgrown with saplings and understory. The other 90 acre property was 80% cleared and is the same way now. I put out some trophy rock and I have a pretty good idea what they are doing where I am allowed to hunt. At some point I'll have to get in there just to hang stands cut some trails and plant food plots. I don't have to worry about poachers at least. They would get impaled and wrapped up by blackberrys, briars, nettle and thistle and would have to be rescued. I need to consult a biologist and a forestry person. The deer have plenty of room to hide, 390 acres to be exact.

I'm leaving the property next to the clear cutting alone. I'm looking at a Kubota tractor with a loader and just sprucing up the other property. I really get excited this time of year. getting ready to refurbish my ladder stand and get it out up next month. I'm also looking forward to getting my food plot in with my own box blade and tractor.
