first couple of targets from black death

finally got a chance to break the barrel in on the cva hunter 44 mag 16.5 barrel
i got the zeiss 3-9x40 with target knobs mounted
all these were at 50 yds

the top load was one i worked up for a ruger revolver that i never took to the woods this year
240 hndy xtp over h110 i think i will use this for my full power load at 1700 fps it should work

the next 2 loads are with nosler 300 bullets i was curious how the 1:20 twist would stabilize the 300 grainers at low speed

being a single shot i am not crimping and seating them out at 1.880 col and 2400 powder 12.2 I started high and worked down only got 686 fps but no bullet tumbling shot ok

the best subsonic load so far was 13.4 2400 and got 870 fps same col 1.880

i have several more loads worked up and a few different powders
can should be here this week and then the wait on atf
i went with a lane 458 scorpion
it can withstand 458 win mag loads so unlike using a 45 can 44 mag full on loads will be no problem
also it will come apart i may try some cast bullets so i can clean it
i hope i can get a 405 lead bullet at 1000 fps to print well
we will see

405gr at 1000fps will be a sledgehammer, hopefully you can get the accuracy you desire. Cool project sir.

100 yds

it would probably kill farther but i will keep it 50 or less 90% of the time

a 300 gn or 405 gn bullet at 1000 fps should bust shoulder fine at 50 yds or less

We will see deer standing by the Road with Signs saying "DA is Unfair" and little drawings of a deer with a hole in him like Fearless Fosdick.

(Might even be some blue-tipped bullets under a deaths head)

I never loaded for a 16 inch 44 but in a 7 1/2 inch RBH IMR4227 is good stuff,,lookin good so far and should flatten a deer at 100 yards without anyone hearing it go bang,,

I'd say those 300 grain loads would probably be my favorite. The 405's will be interesting though if it will stabiize a bullet that heavy! Both loads are grouping plenty good enough already.
