It has been 7 or 8 years since I've shot a deer with my bow.
I got a late start this evening on my own property and walked up on 5 does in my food plot. There was a small rise between us, so I snuck up on them a little bit, drew my bow, then stood up to see if any of them would stand still for me.
They all instantly ran off, but one stopped to check me out around 40 yards. She gave me time to get set and let one go. I watched the arrow, and saw it go over her back. I shrugged it off to bad yardage judgement, and got in my stand.
About 30 minutes later a little 7pt comes walking by and stops broadside at 20 yards. Normally I will let the small ones pass, but it has been a while and I wanted him (if it makes you happy, do it). I shot and put him down within sight.
After I finished gutting the buck, I went to find my arrow that I shot at the doe. I found it, and I was covered with blood.
I tracked her probably 50-100 yards into some really thick stuff. I found her dead, and got lost for about 45 minutes trying to get out of the thick woods (yes on my property!).
I finally get them both loaded, and it is too late to take them to the processor. Normally not a big deal, but we are going to the beach early tomorrow. Lucky a very good friend agreed to come get them at my house and take them to the processor, and of course he will get one of them for himself.
I'm really happy about doubling up after all this time, but I think it is going to be a long drive in the morning with the wife since I took so long hunting, and left her to finish packing and putting kids to bed by herself. Oh well....
