Got it done yesterday afternoon. Been kinda frustrating this year. Opening morning I had not one but two longbeards coming to my calls. Trouble was they were standing side x side with wing tips touching at 30 yards. Too dang close! I was afraid I would kill one and wound the other. They finally moved enough for a clear shot but before I could pull the trigger a dang Pileated Woodpecker lit up in a tree and made a gawd awful racket and spooked both birds off.
Took the wife with me for the afternoon hunt and believe it or not called the same two gobblers in, but they hung up just out of range.
Next couple of hunts only saw a Jake and a few hens until yesterday when it all finally came together. I decided to set up in my favorite spot on the edge of a food plot which borders a small creek. Got settled in gave a few soft calls on my homemade box call and waited. I soon saw movement up on the ridge, here came a hen with old Tom close behind. He never made a sound but put on a good show. After what seemed an eternity he finally came into range and I dropped the hammer on him. As luck would have it he flopped around and landed in the creek. [thus the ugly pics].
Anyway it was a fun hunt and I feel blessed to finally close the deal. 101/2" beard 1" spurs.
