OK,quick question,I got my soil samples back and I went to co-op and got a quote to buy the recommended amount of fertilizer that whitetail institute gave me. Will corn require that full amount of fertilizer since Im growing it for deer or can I cut it back some? Its about $200-$250 per acre in fertilizer alone.

You should have a breakdown of pounds or units of every nutrient. But I'm not familiar with the whitetail institute samples. If you pm me or post a picture of the sample I'm sure we could figure it out.

I'll check in the morning the price. My guess is they were quoting it to you in bags. If you have access to a tractor then you could put it in a buggy and buy bulk fertilizer.

Yep I have a tractor and would buy bulk if possible.Im just trying to find out what I have to put down to get a decent yield.Ill be glad to send a picture text to anyone who can post the report on this page.

You can certainly put out less than they recommend and still get a decent crop yield. Soil test results are for optimum yield and as you say, when we are growing a crop just to feed to wild animals it's not the end of the world if we don't produce 250 bushels of corn/acre. I've typically used 200 to 250 lbs of 13-13-13 or 15-15-15 per acre in the past for corn food plots. I get a couple of long full ears per stalk doing that and the field lasts most of the way through the Winter. There's no need to break the bank to feed varmints. :D
