feeding problem

My bolt action savage 270 feeds all shells perfectly EXCEPT the last one. The last shell in the magazine comes loose and tends to turn on an angle with the bullet turning to the right and outside the receiver when quickly working the bolt forward. It makes no difference how many shells are loaded, the last one does not feed properly when working the bolt forward. I have tried a new spring and that made no difference. Before I try to change the feed lips, I am asking if anyone has had this experience and what was the remedy.

+1 on the follower. That would be my best guess. See if it is deformed in some way.

This may be an unusually dumb reply since I do not own a Savage nor have one on hand to look at, but it is possible that the follower is installed backward or the spring beneath it backward or upside down?
