I've never used one before, got one given to me that holds 200lb with electric timer. I plan on putting it out after the season to help the deer for the winter since no acorns this year but have no idea what to put in it, how often to set the timer to feed them and for how long to let it run when it goes off (10 seconds?) . I got a solar charger for it but once I put it out in Jan I will not be back to check it until late March. I am sure it will run out before then but need recommendations.

The solar charger should keep the battery charged for you, that's it's purpose. However 200lbs won't last that long.

I'd set it to throw no more than 10 seconds once In The morning and once in the evening. The idea is to through just enough that they can eat it all before the next time the buffet wheel rolls.

The down side is corn isn't beneficial nutritionally and protein feed doesn't dispense well through a broadcast feeder.

Co-op corn is dirty. It is full of dust. That's why bags in retail stores cost a little more. Not sure what mechanics are on the feeder but, sometimes the dust can bind up the motor or gears.

when i first read this i was like i have never had a deer complain or not eat it because of dust.....then i saw where u mentioned the mechanics off the feeder that is a good point

I've had a feeder running corn, mostly from Academy sports, for 5 years. I have a solar charger and with it out in the open a battery will last a couple of years. I feed 8-10 seconds in the late afternoon. During a couple of the cold winter months I add a morning feeding time.

10 seconds is a long time and a lot of corn. Keep in mind, the longer you sling it each time, the quicker the feeder runs out. We do 5 sec 2x/day or 10 and 5 depending on the situation....
