First rut has came and went. Heard rumors of 2nd rut going on now, but I haven't seen a buck chase since December 3rd. I hunt on the fayette/hardeman line

The second Rut is definitely coming on. I sat in a place that borders our property and another property consisting of 1900 acres. Location in Hardeman County. They allow no hunting of deer whatsoever. This past Saturday (Dec 20th) I watched 19 does feed in a distance off a Power Line from 3:30 pm til dark. They just kept coming and coming. As they fed and approached me one could tell the mature does were kicking at their yearlings trying to wing them away. It was obvious the elder Does could sense their estrus cycle coming back in. Time to start over. There was a 2 year old 4 pt smelling every inch of ground around certain Does. At roughly 4:45 I noticed all Does were focus in one direction and I could hear deer running about through the leaves. I looked up and low and behold on the Power Line was a big Buck. Through my scope I could make out 4 pts on one side. He was moving with his nose to the ground at a fast walk. No shot but I would not have taken it anyway since he was on our neighbors land. Everyone of the Doe's moved over to our land behind me. I have no idea where they went. Will plan to hunt this same place on Fri-Sunday this weekend.

We are heading out today (Sunday 28th) for a late morning to dusk hunt. Have not been since last Sunday. We are hoping to bag a doe or two. I can't control the weather but having withdrawal symptoms while yearning for the woods. Will advise our outcome. Hunting around Hickory Valley.

I popped a nice ten Friday because he was chasing a doe. Had to yell At him to get him to stop. The doe came past me running so fast that I didn't even have a chance to register what was happening. I was kicking myself over it. Then the big guy came along at a nice trot. I'd say from what I saw at the taxidermist and what I've heard from surrounding farms second rut is in full swing here in northwest hardeman.

We arrived and were on our stands at 10:30. Hunted til 1:30 with very little activity. jumped a couple of does walking into the woods to set up a friend of mine and his 14 yr old son. Who, by the way, had never killed a deer. They had two coyotes come by after an hour and passed on the shot. I am still shocked they did not take one.
We went for a bite to eat at 1:30 and were back on stands at 2:30. At 3:00 pm the gates opened up. The young lad with us killed a decent doe. He was more thrilled after the fact than actually pulling the trigger. That is a good feeling and one I hope stays with him the rest of his life. Several other does entered the field afterwards and I requested they pass unless it was a large mature doe. My brother, who was also present, bagged a decent 6 pt. at 3:45. It was the 3rd buck after being on the stand(over a bean field) for an hour. We were out of the fields/woods and field dressing deer by 4:30. Good day. While at Burris Deer Processing the owner told me the bulk of the deer this weekend were taken during the PM hours. the mornings had been slow. 7 days left guys...

I'm hoping this week is kind to me. Seems like everyone else has gotten one on the property this year, but me lol

Yesterday(Wednesday) was the best single day of the year for us. Of the 3 of us hunting we bagged two nice 8 pts. First one I got at 4:11 pm while hunting on the ground over a huge bean field. My partner shot his at 4:30 hunting over last year's wheat field. Even though the farmer did not plant anything on the field this year the deer have still been flocking to it during the late PM hours. Yesterday was no different. My deer will score close to 120 but his will score very close to 140. will post the pictures as soon as possible..
